Abergavenny Castle & Museum
Castle Street, Abergavenny, NP7 5EE
About this place
Abergavenny Museum sits in a Regency hunting lodge on top of a Norman castle mound, so you get two attractions in one! Inside, the museum takes you through the story of Abergavenny from prehistoric times right up to the present day, with permanent displays and temporary exhibitions across several floors. Outside, explore the castle ruins and grounds, which make a cracking spot for a picnic with views over the town. It's easy to make a day of it. Castle Meadows, St Mary's Priory and the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal are all close by. Good to know: entry is free, though some special events have a charge. The museum is closed on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the castle grounds open daily (except over Christmas and New Year). Pay and display parking is a short walk away on Castle Street.
