Privacy policy

Your privacy on Moochify

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use moochify.co.uk, why we collect it, who we share it with and the rights you have over it. We keep it to what we need to run the site, we do not sell it, and we do not use advertising trackers.

How to contact us

Email: hello@moochify.co.uk

1. Who we are

Moochify is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. Being the controller means we decide how and why your information is used, and we are responsible for looking after it under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Moochify. "You" means anyone who visits the site, has an account, or adds a listing. Our contact details are at the top of this page.

2. The information we collect

You can browse Moochify without an account, and we collect very little when you do. We collect more only when you sign up, add a listing or get in touch.

When you create an account
Username, email address, password (stored scrambled, never as typed), home postcode, your email choices and the event categories you pick.
When you sign in with Google
Your email address, name and a Google account identifier. We never see your Google password.
When you choose a business, community or charity account
Account type, organisation name and charity number if you give one.
When you add or edit a listing
Everything you put on the form: names, organiser or contact name, address, postcode, where you place the pin on the map, phone number, email address, website and social media links, description, prices and photos. For trades: registration scheme and number, insurance declaration and years trading. For clubs: your answers to the safeguarding questions.
When you upload a photo
The photo, when it was uploaded, and a record that you confirmed you own it or have permission to use it.
When you use account features
Events you mark Going or Interested, things you save, reviews and flag ratings you leave, and notifications we show you.
When you report a listing or review
The reason, your description, and your account if you are signed in. If you ask to take over a place's listing, also the name and email address you give us, which only our moderators see and use to check you are connected to the place.
When you use the Contact us form
Your name, email address, the topic and your message.
When you ask to be told when we open in your area
Your email address and postcode.
When you pay for a listing (from 1 April 2027)
Your plan, billing dates and a payment reference. Card details go straight to our payment provider. We never see or store them.
Automatically, when you use the site
Sign-in sessions, sign-in attempts (email, time, whether it worked), a log of emails we sent you (address, subject, type and whether it was delivered), and the basic visit statistics described in section 6.

We do not ask for special category information, such as health, religion or ethnicity. Please do not include it in listings, reviews or messages.

Information about other people: if you add someone else's details to a listing, such as a club contact's name or phone number, you must have their permission first. If your details appear on Moochify and you did not agree to it, email us and we will remove them.

Listing statistics: we count how many times each listing is viewed, shared or has its contact details opened, so listers can see how it is doing. These are plain daily totals. They do not record who you are.

3. How we use your information and our lawful basis

The law says we need a valid reason, called a lawful basis, for each use of your information. These are ours.

Create and run your account, sign you in, confirm your email, reset your password
Contract: we need it to give you the service you signed up for.
Publish and manage the listings you submit
Contract.
Save events and listings for you, and show your reviews
Contract.
Send service emails (email confirmation, password reset, decisions on your listings, event cancellations, renewal and payment notices, the yearly "is your club still running?" check)
Contract, and our legitimate interest in keeping listings accurate.
Send reminders before events you marked Going or Interested
Legitimate interests: you asked us to keep track of the event. You can switch these off.
Send the weekly "what's on" email
Consent: only if you opt in, and you can withdraw at any time.
Tell you when we open in your area
Consent: you asked us to.
Check listings, photos and edits before they go live, handle reports, remove unsuitable content, and keep a log of moderator actions
Legitimate interests: keeping the site safe, accurate and trustworthy.
Flag accounts with repeated cancellations or upheld reports for a moderator to review, and block or suspend accounts that break our rules
Legitimate interests: protecting visitors and preventing misuse.
Limit sign-in attempts, keep sessions secure and investigate misuse
Legitimate interests: keeping accounts and the site secure.
Answer messages sent through Contact us
Legitimate interests: responding to you.
Count visits and listing views to understand how the site is used
Legitimate interests: improving the site and showing listers how their listing performs. Visit statistics only store anything on your device if you accept them.
Take payment for paid listings and keep payment records (from 1 April 2027)
Contract, and legal obligation for tax and accounting records.
Respond to legal requests and exercise or defend legal claims
Legal obligation, and legitimate interests.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have weighed them against your rights and kept the information to the minimum. You can object at any time (see section 12).

We do not sell your information. We do not use it for targeted advertising. Adverts on Moochify are simple images and links that we place ourselves, with no tracking attached.

Automated checks: some things happen automatically. The "Verified organiser" badge is awarded after an approved event with no upheld reports, and an account with several cancellations in a short period is flagged. A flag only asks a moderator to look. A person always makes the decision to block or suspend an account, and you can ask us to review it.

4. What other people can see

Moochify is a public directory, so anything you put in a listing is meant to be seen.

  • Public: your username, your reviews and ratings, your organiser page with the events you have listed, and everything in a published listing, including the contact name, phone number and email address you entered. Phone numbers and email addresses are hidden until a visitor clicks to reveal them, which helps keep them away from automated scrapers.
  • Search engines and shared links: published listings can appear in search results and in link previews when someone shares them on WhatsApp, Messenger or elsewhere.
  • Private: your account email address, home postcode, password, saved items, Going and Interested marks, and email choices. Only you and our admins can see these.
  • Reports: if you report a listing or review, we do not tell the lister or reviewer who reported it.
  • Moderators: our moderators can see listings awaiting approval, reports and the account that submitted them, so they can do their job. They follow our rules on confidentiality.

Use a business or club contact number and email in listings where you can, and not a personal one you would not want published.

5. Emails we send

  • Service emails. These are needed to run your account and listings, so you cannot opt out of them while you have an account or a live listing.
  • Event reminders. Sent shortly before events you marked Going or Interested. Switch them off in your account settings at any time.
  • Weekly "what's on" email. Sent only if you opt in, and based on the categories you choose. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also switch it off in your account settings.

We do not pass your email address to anyone else for their marketing.

6. Cookies and browser storage

We use a small number of cookies and similar browser storage. None are used for advertising, and none track you across other websites. Our Cookie policy page lists each one.

Essential cookies, such as the one that keeps you signed in, are always on. Visit statistics are optional. When you first visit, we ask you to choose between "Accept all" and "Essential only", and we only store the visit statistics identifier on your device if you accept. We remember your choice for 6 months, and you can change it at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page.

Visit statistics record the page viewed, the page you came from, your browser type and language, and a country worked out from your time zone. They do not record your IP address and are not linked to your account.

7. Who we share your information with

We share information only with the companies that help us run Moochify, and only what each one needs. They act on our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes.

Floot, Inc.
The platform Moochify is built and hosted on. Handles everything stored on the site.
Amazon Web Services
Hosting, photo storage and email delivery, through Floot. Handles site data, uploaded photos and the emails we send you.
Neon
Database hosting, through Floot. Handles account and listing data.
Tinybird
Visit statistics, through Floot. Handles the visit data described in section 6.
Google
Google sign-in, if you choose it, and the fonts the site uses. Handles your sign-in with Google, and sees your browser's IP address when it loads fonts.
OpenStreetMap
Map images on the Map page and on the small map shown when you add or edit a listing. Sees your browser's IP address when it loads map tiles.
Cloudflare
The "are you human?" check (Turnstile) on the sign-up, Contact us and waiting list forms, to stop spam from bots. Sees your browser's IP address and basic browser details while you fill in those forms. Not used for advertising.
postcodes.io
Turns a postcode into a map position. Receives the postcode only, with nothing identifying you.
Open-Meteo
Weather forecasts. Receives an approximate area location only, with nothing identifying you.
Payment provider (from 1 April 2027)
Takes card payments for paid listings. Your payment details go straight to them. We will name the provider here before payments start.

We may also share information:

  • with the police, courts, regulators or other authorities when the law requires it, or when it is needed to prevent harm or fraud
  • with professional advisers such as accountants or solicitors, in confidence
  • with a new owner, if Moochify is ever sold or transferred. They would have to keep to this policy, and we would tell you first

Links to other sites: listings link to other websites and services, such as an organiser's own website, a council or park website, Facebook, calendar apps and map apps. Share buttons open WhatsApp, Messenger or your device's share menu. We send them nothing until you tap, and what they do with your information is covered by their own privacy policies.

8. Where your information is stored

Moochify's data is stored in the United States, on servers run for Floot by Amazon Web Services and Neon. The United States is outside the UK, so we rely on safeguards approved under UK data protection law for these transfers: the UK-US data bridge where the provider is certified under it, and otherwise the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.

You can ask us for more detail about these safeguards using the contact details at the top of this page.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep information only for as long as we need it for the reasons in section 3.

Your account, saved items, Going and Interested marks, reviews
Until you delete your account.
Listings you added
While they are live, and afterwards as a record of what was listed, unless you remove them or ask us to.
Sign-in sessions
Up to 7 days.
Sign-in attempts
Up to 30 days.
Log of emails we sent you
Up to 12 months.
Contact us messages
Up to 24 months after we last replied.
Reports and the log of moderator actions
At least 12 months and up to 24 months, so we can look back if a problem or complaint comes up.
"Tell me when you open here" requests
Until we open in your area, or you ask us to remove you.
Visit statistics
12 months.
Hosting logs kept by Floot
Up to 90 days.
Payment and billing records (from 1 April 2027)
6 years after the end of the tax year, as tax law requires.

When you delete your account: you can delete your account yourself in your account settings. Before you confirm, we explain what will happen to your listings and let you choose whether published events are removed or stay on the site without your name or contact details.

Deleting your account removes your profile, password, sign-in details, saved items, Going and Interested marks, reviews and notifications. Upcoming events you listed are cancelled, and people following them are told. We email you once to confirm the deletion.

A few things remain: the log of moderator actions may still show the username that was involved, and other listings you added (places, clubs, trades and venues) stay until you remove them or ask us to. Email us and we will remove any listing or contact detail of yours.

10. How we keep it safe

  • All pages are served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
  • Passwords are stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody at Moochify can read them.
  • Sign-in cookies cannot be read by scripts on the page, and repeated wrong sign-in attempts are limited.
  • Only admins can see account email addresses. Moderators have different levels of access, sign out automatically when idle, and every moderator action is logged.
  • New listings, photos and key edits are checked by a person before they go live.
  • We do not store card details.

No website can promise perfect security. If a breach is likely to put you at risk, we will tell you and the Information Commissioner's Office as the law requires.

You can help by using a password you do not use anywhere else, and by telling us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.

11. Children

Moochify accounts are for adults. You must be 18 or over to create an account, leave a review or add a listing, and we ask you to confirm this when you sign up. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

Anyone can browse Moochify without an account, including families looking for things to do together.

If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, email us and we will close it and delete their information.

Listings must not include photos or personal details of identifiable children unless the person adding them has permission from a parent or guardian.

12. Your rights

UK data protection law gives you these rights over your personal information.

Access
Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
Correction
Ask us to fix anything wrong or incomplete. You can change most details yourself in your account settings.
Erasure
Ask us to delete your information. You can delete your account yourself at any time.
Restriction
Ask us to stop using your information while a concern is looked into.
Objection
Object to any use we base on legitimate interests, and to any direct marketing.
Portability
Ask for the information you gave us in a format you can take elsewhere.
Withdraw consent
Change your mind about the weekly email, an area notification or visit statistics at any time.

To use any of these, email us or write to the address at the top of this page. It is free. We will reply within one month. We may need to check it is really you before we act, for example by replying to the email address on your account.

Some rights have limits. For example, we may need to keep payment records for tax law, or a moderation record while a complaint is open. If we cannot do what you ask, we will explain why.

13. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first by email. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and do our best to put things right.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator:

  • Website: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint
  • Helpline: 0303 123 1113
  • Post: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF

14. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when Moochify changes, for example when payments start or when we add apps or new areas. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If a change makes a real difference to how we use your information, we will tell account holders by email or with a notice on the site before it takes effect.
