Looking for a peaceful patch of nature right in Newport? Allt-yr-yn Local Nature Reserve is a hidden green escape tucked between the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and Allt-yr-yn View. It's a lovely spot for a wander, with wildflower meadows, woodland and plenty of birdsong. Volunteers help look after the reserve, putting up nest boxes, building log piles for wildlife and caring for the meadows, so keep your eyes open for the creatures that call it home. Fancy a longer walk? A footpath links the reserve with Fourteen Locks Canal Centre, so you can join the canal towpath and make a proper day of it or park near The Cafe at Ridgeway, Allt-yr-yn Avenue, Newport, parking is on street and the reserve can be accessed after a short walk. Good to know: the reserve is free to visit and open all year round.
