Blaenavon Ironworks

About this place
Blaenavon Ironworks is where the Industrial Revolution comes to life! Part of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site, it's one of the best-preserved ironworks of its age anywhere. Wander among the towering remains of the blast furnaces, the foundry and the cast house, and marvel at the water balance tower, which once lifted wagons high into the air. Then step inside the workers' cottages, furnished to show how families lived, and pop into the recreated company shop where wages were spent. An on-site exhibition tells the full story, and if you're feeling brave, the balance tower gives the best view of all (it's a steep climb!). It pairs perfectly with a visit to nearby Big Pit for a full day of Blaenavon history. Good to know: entry is paid (free for Cadw members). Dogs on leads are welcome but not in the cottages. Opening times change with the seasons, so check before you go.
