Bute Park
North Road, Cardiff, CF10 3DX
About this place
Right in the heart of Cardiff, Bute Park is a huge green oasis behind Cardiff Castle, and it's perfect for a family mooch away from the city bustle. Tree lovers are in for a treat: the arboretum has over 3,000 catalogued trees, and the Champion Tree Trail takes you to some of the biggest and tallest of their kind. Kids can explore natural play features, woodland balance trails and story trails, and hunt for 21 sculptures dotted around the park. History fans can track down the Animal Wall, the remains of Blackfriars Friary and the Dock Feeder Canal. With three cafés to choose from, you'll never be far from a cuppa. You can also hire bikes nearby or hop on a water taxi down the river, and the Taff Trail runs right through the park. Good to know: the park is free to visit. Check the website for opening hours. Pay and display car parking facilities are available nearby in Sophia Gardens (CF11 9LJ), Castle Mews (CF10 3ER) and North Road (CF10 3EA).
