About this place
Caerphilly Castle is a proper "wow" moment! It's the largest medieval castle in Wales, surrounded by huge lakes and moats, and it's every bit as impressive as it sounds. Built from 1268, the castle is packed with towers, gatehouses and thick stone walls just begging to be explored. Don't miss the famous leaning tower, which tilts more than the Leaning Tower of Pisa! You can also visit the Great Hall, take in the views from the Watergate viewing platform, wander the wildflower garden and dive into the history at the on-site exhibition. Look out for spooky Halloween evenings and Christmas ghost stories through the year, perfect for brave little knights. Good to know: entry is paid (free for Cadw members). The castle is being redeveloped, so some areas may be closed, and the highest points can shut in bad weather. Dogs on leads are welcome on ground-floor levels. Expect narrow corridors and uneven stone steps.
