Caldicot Castle is a fairytale castle in a gorgeous country park, and the best bit? It's free to visit! Explore the medieval towers, climb up to the battlements for views across the parkland and the Severn Estuary, and peek into the dungeon (if you dare!). In the courtyard you'll find a cannon from the warship HMS Foudroyant, and the castle's story runs from Norman beginnings to its Victorian days as a family home. Some say it's haunted, which is why ghost hunts are held here. The castle sits in a 55-acre country park with woodland, a stretch of the River Nedern and a wildlife pond, perfect for a family stroll or a picnic. You can even hire bikes. Afterwards, the tea room is just the place for a cuppa and a treat. Good to know: entry and parking are free except on some event days. Dogs are welcome and wheelchairs are available.
