Tucked away on the northern edge of Cardiff, Cefn Onn Park is a peaceful wooded valley that feels a million miles from the city. This Grade II listed historic park is famous for its trees and shrubs, and it's at its most spectacular in spring, when the camellias, rhododendrons and bulbs burst into colour. Come back in autumn for a blaze of golds and reds. Explore the historic Dingle garden, the summerhouse and pond, and the Coed Transh yr Hebog woodland. Kids can follow the Wildlife Explorer Trail, and there are waymarked walks for all, with links to the Caerphilly Mountain footpaths if you fancy going further. Good to know: there's parking on site. The park is open from 7am until 30 minutes before sunset.
