Cwmtillery Lakes
Cwmtillery, Abertillery, NP13 1LS
About this place
Cwmtillery Lakes is a hidden treasure nestled in a wooded valley above Abertillery, and it's a real local favourite for a peaceful wander. The Lower Lake was once a feeder pond for Cwmtillery Colliery, and today it's a haven for wildlife, especially wildfowl, so bring some suitable duck food for the little ones. Look out for the sculptures around the lake that echo the area's mining history. The site is a Local Nature Reserve and a Community Green Flag Award winner, and it's popular with anglers too. Fancy stretching your legs further? The information boards by the car park tell you about the Horse Shoe Bend Walk, and the lakes are a gateway to more walks up the Tyleri Valley. Good to know: there's a good-sized car park near the eastern bank of the Lower Lake.
