About this place

Cyfarthfa Castle is a grand castellated mansion built in 1824 by the ironmaster William Crawshay, set in rolling parkland overlooking Merthyr Tydfil. Today the castle is home to a museum and art gallery, with historic and artistic collections that tell the story of Merthyr and the people who made it. There are exhibitions and events throughout the year. Outside, the park is perfect for a stroll and a breath of fresh air after exploring. Good to know: the castle is having work done on the outside, but the museum is open as normal. It's closed on Mondays and bank holidays. Check the website for opening times before you go.
