About this place
High up on the hill between Blaenavon and Abergavenny, Keepers Pond is one of those places that makes you stop and say "wow". Also known as Pen-ffordd-goch Pond, it was built in the early 1800s to power a forge, and is now part of the Blaenavon World Heritage Site. On a sunny day it's a gorgeous spot for a picnic by the water with big open skies all around. The car park is the starting point for walks across the Blorenge, with moorland, old quarries and stunning views to discover. And when the sun goes down, it's a favourite with stargazers thanks to its dark skies. Good to know: parking is free and dogs are welcome. Access has been restricted because water levels are dangerously low, and all water activities including swimming and paddleboarding are banned, so check before you visit. It can get busy at night during stargazing events.
