About this place

Lavernock Point is a wild and windswept little nature reserve on the coast between Penarth and Barry, and it's a hidden gem for nature lovers. The reserve is mostly coastal limestone grassland, meadows and scrub, and in spring and summer it bursts into life with cowslips, several kinds of orchid and lots of butterflies. In autumn, keep watch for huge flocks of migrating birds passing through. There's history here too, with a Second World War gun battery that's now a protected ancient monument. It's a great spot for a breezy walk with sea views, and it pairs nicely with a visit to Cosmeston Lakes or Penarth. Good to know: entry is free. Some paths have stiles and some cliff-top paths are eroding, so take care. Dogs must be kept on a lead. Park in the lay-by next to the reserve or the car park at the end of Fort Road.
