Penarth's Victorian pier and elegant seafront make for the perfect old-fashioned seaside stroll. Walk out along the pier for views across the Bristol Channel, and admire the beautifully restored 1929 art deco Pavilion at its entrance. The Pavilion hosts exhibitions, film screenings, live music and theatre, so there's often something going on. Along the Esplanade you can grab chips and an ice cream and watch the boats go by. Fancy trying your hand at fishing? You can fish from the end of the pier with no permit or charge, except in June, July and August. The Big Fresh Café in the Pavilion serves locally sourced food and drink. Good to know: dogs are welcome on the beach from October to the end of April.
