About this place
Known locally as the People's Park, Pontypool Park is a whopping 64 hectares of green space packed with history and things to do. Go on a treasure hunt for the park's historic gems: the Italian Gardens, the old ice houses, the Shell Grotto and the Folly Tower, many of them lovingly restored. There's a Gorsedd Stone Circle from the 1924 National Eisteddfod too. Footpaths on the northern edge lead out towards the Brecon Beacons for longer walks with big views. For the active bunch there's a children's play area, tennis courts, pitch and putt, bowls and even a dry ski slope, and rugby fans will know it as the home of Pontypool RFC. It's also a lovely spot for a picnic and a game on the grass. Good to know: dogs are welcome if kept under control. Cycling isn't allowed in the park.
