Sirhowy Valley Country Park is a big, beautiful slice of countryside near Crosskeys and Risca, with around a thousand acres of woodland and grassland to explore. Follow the riverside path beside the Sirhowy River for an easy wander, or head up to Graig Goch Woods for sweeping views across the valleys. Cyclists can hop on National Cycle Route 47, which runs right through the park and links west to Parc Penallta. Fancy something longer? Walkers can join the Sirhowy Valley Ridgeway Walk or the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk, and a waymarked circular route climbs from the park to the top of Machen Mountain for some cracking views. Good to know: the park is free to visit. Check the council's website for parking and facilities before you go.
