Twmbarlwm Walk
Nantcarn Road, Cwmcarn, NP11 7FA
About this place
Up for a challenge with a big reward at the top? The Twmbarlwm Walk climbs from Cwmcarn Forest Visitor Centre to the summit of Twmbarlwm, the hill locals lovingly call "the Twmp". It's a 4km (2.5 mile) circular route taking about two hours, and it's rated strenuous, with around 270 metres of climbing. Your effort is rewarded with an Iron Age hillfort and a mound on the plateau, plus jaw-dropping views stretching south to Cardiff Bay and north towards the Brecon Beacons. Pick a clear day and you won't be disappointed! Back at the start, the visitor centre has a café for snacks and refreshments, a gift shop with local crafts, and toilets and showers. Good to know: the walk starts and finishes at Cwmcarn Forest Visitor Centre, where parking is charged. Wear sturdy footwear, as it's a steep climb.
